How To Design A Mindful Home

What is a home when you come down to it?

The word ‘sanctuary’ might come to mind, and that’s definitely a good place to start because your home should be a place where you feel safe, can relax and unwind, and ultimately feel at peace.

Another word that could work to describe a home is ‘mindful’, and a mindful home can do everything.

Ensuring you’re comfortable, happy, and able to stay in that home for as long as you want to without being stressed and distressed is important.

With that in mind, let’s take a look at what goes into designing a mindful home – read on to find out more.

How To Design A Mindful Home

Start With A Purpose

One thing to be aware of when it comes to mindful design is that it has to have a purpose, and there needs to be intention behind what you’re doing.

To make that easier, think about how you use each space and what you want it to feel like, what feelings you want it to evoke, and you’ll be heading in the right direction.

Some questions to get you started include working out if your living room is for rest and relaxation or entertaining (or even entertainment), and whether your bedroom should feel cozy or if it’s a place to re-energize.

Once you know what each room is meant to be, it’s going to make it easier to get the design elements just right.

Make Comfort And Warmth A Priority

A mindful home is generally one that feels lovely and cozy – not cold.

To make that happen, you can do things like layer rugs, throws, and cushions to give you a really comfortable feeling, and it’s wise to check your insulation because that can make all the difference when it comes to keeping your home warm and welcoming all year round.

In fact, not only does proper, professionally installed installation save you energy, but it also makes your home a lot quieter, and that in turn is going to help give you the peaceful, mindful space you’re looking for.

Make The Most Of Natural Light

There’s something uplifting and energizing (also comforting and calming) about seeing those gorgeous beams of sunlight drifting through the windows.

The same goes for a nice, gentle breeze wafting around your home (as long as it doesn’t make you feel cold).

So if that’s the case, it makes a lot of sense to bring these things into your home if you can.

One thing you can do is arrange the furniture better so you get more natural light coming in, and you can also change your curtains so they’re more sheer, so you’ve privacy but you can also see the sunshine.

Plus, good ventilation really works wonders, as your home will feel fresh, not stuffy.

Open your windows from time to time and, to make your home a healthier one, why not invest in an air purifier as well?
