How to Combine Discounts or Coupons to Save More

5 Tips to Combine Discounts or Coupons to Save More

Did you know there are ways to combine discounts?

Often we only think of their reward programs or specific sales.

However, if you combine the following options you can get even bigger discounts.

Here’s how:

  1. Sign up to the loyalty program for anywhere you plan to shop. Most have welcome discounts.
  2. Sign up for cash back using Shopback, Honey and Swagbucks. You can only use one at a time. Be sure to activate them when shopping.
  3. Get gift cards at a discount for the stores you shop at through the above cash back sites or these ideas to get free gift cards.
  4. Shop when things are on sale or in a clearance section.
  5. Enter any relevant competitions, do any surveys for future discounts etc.

Let us explain in more detail below.

Note: If you like freebies and discounts, check out how to get a $100 cash bonus from ING, $15 from Up Bank or have a look at the full list of freebies, offers and discounts for every state.

Sign up for Loyalty Programs

Most shops have loyalty programs where you can collect points.

Generally, there is a discount for new members, birthday discounts or freebies and other offers.

Join all of the ones you shop at regularly or are about to shop at. Either ask in-store or check their websites.

Sign up for Cash Back Programs

Cash back programs are programs you can join for free and they will tell you when you can get cash back and how much you can get back.

Then, you activate their offer, do your shop and they confirm that you spent money there.

Once that is confirmed, you get the money back into your account with the cash-back program. You then transfer the money to your bank account.

Sometimes it takes a couple of months but you can see if the transaction is pending, approved, or declined.

Get Gift Cards at a Discount

Using discounted gift cards can save you up to 10% more.

Coles and Woolworths often have discounts on gift cards they sell for a variety of stores and services.

You can accrue points for their reward programs when buying gift cards.

Most of these discounted gift cards are valid for 3 years and can be stored electronically on your phone.

Be aware, gift cards are treated the same as cash so if you lose them, you cannot have them replaced.

Shop in the Sales

Stores constantly have things on sale. Grocery stores rotate their sales regularly in a cycle so it is easy to track when what you want is on sale.

Clothing and other stores do theirs seasonally so at the end of a season, items will go on sale then often onto a massive clearance.

Not all welcome discounts or cash-back offers are valid on sale items though so you need to check the fine print when you do it.

Enter Competitions, Surveys, and Receipt Details

Once you have completed your shop, check to see if there are any offers with what you have purchased.

It might be a competition to enter or a survey to do that is at the end of the receipt or emailed to you.

Shopback gives bonuses for uploading receipts now too.

How to Combine Discounts for Groceries

This method works for groceries too. Know where you shop and follow the process.

You can easily save at least 15% off at Woolworths, get special bonuses for Coles as well as locally owned shops, delis etc.

Activate every offer that comes through, pay attention to when gift cards are on sale and bonus offers are available and shop accordingly.

How Much Extra Can You Save?

When you start looking at the stores you shop at such as Big W, Woolworths, Priceline, Supercheap Auto, BCF, Harvey Norman etc and apply this method, you can see some big savings.

It all comes down to knowing what discounts are available and following this process.

Remember though, if you didn’t need to buy it or are shopping more because it’s discounted, you aren’t really saving.
