Right now, most of you are asking how to make more money. While I have covered this a lot on the site, there are always new ways to be able to make money. Everything I write about, I have tested so can verify how much I made, my tips, what made it easier etc. This post shares a lot.

I have put everything together in an easy pdf eBook for you for only $9.95. It outlines 99 ideas, how to get started, how to market them and how to make more with each idea.

The Best Ways I’ve Made Money

Below are some of my favourite, easiest or highest earners for the time they took. Realistically, I live a pretty flexible lifestyle, my income comes mostly from consulting and writing. I prefer to do things I enjoy but I have done plenty I didn’t particularly like.

Ideally, I look for ways I can make money in multiple ways at the same time. For example, having a boarder or Airbnb tenant, renting out my garage, renting out my car, running a blog and publishing books or articles. They can all be done at the same time with little to no effort once set up.

Blogging

Honestly, this has been my favourite by far. I first founded a blog then bought others, sold some and acquired The Thrifty Issue in 2014. It is my favourite.

With blogging, it has not only provided ample income through ads, sponsored posts, affiliate links etc. But also opportunities such as freelance writing, book contracts, speaking opportunities and more.

Check out how to set up a blog and make money blogging for all my tips.

Freelance Writing

When I was a teen, I told some people I wanted to be a writer and author. They quickly discouraged me and told me I wouldn’t make any money that way. Now, I get paid to travel, review items and have been featured in a variety of magazines, newspapers and other media.

Freelance writing took me to the Solomon Islands 4 times, Vanuatu, Fiji, Austria, Slovenia, Vietnam, Indonesia and created loads of other opportunities.

It does require skill and I do recommend doing a course to get you started. Freelance writing has been by far one of my favourites. Check out how to become a freelance writer here.

Medical Trial

In terms of a decent chunk of cash for little effort, doing a medical trial netted me $4,050. I don’t do them all the time and you do need to do your research, be aware of the risks etc. How to get paid to do medical trials has all my tips plus who I used.

Renting out my Stuff or Space

My garage has gone for $50 a week in Sydney, Canberra and Melbourne. Rooms have rented from $150 a week through to $1,300 for 5 days for my whole apartment when I went away one Christmas. Cars can make a few hundred a month being rented out casually as well.

Plus, now you can rent out your baby gear or just about anything else you have. Read how to make money with Airbnb, how to make money selling your stuff or space and how to make your home pay for itself for tips.

Buy Things to Resell

This was a lifesaver at times, especially when I first left my abusive marriage. Then in 2017, I did an experiment to see how much I could make. In my first month, I made almost $3,000 and by my 4th month, I generated over $10,000.

In more recent times I have made anywhere from a few hundred to thousands depending on the time I dedicate to it.

How else can Aussies Make Money on the Side?

It can be daunting knowing where to start, what to try and where to get information. When I first started looking, often I came across more American sites or things they could do and less of what I could do.

In 99 Side Hustles For Aussies, I cover it all including a selection of businesses you can do on the side.

Online Surveys

Most readers make $2,000 to $5,000 a year with the ones I have tested. I’ve used every site I’ve been told about to test how much you get paid, how long the surveys take, if you get screened out too much etc.

Read the full list of the best online survey sites for Aussies. Some pay in USD too!

Set up a Business

For less than $100 you can set up a basic online business, including the website. Read this guide on how to do it. There are so many businesses you can do now, many are listed in 99 Side Hustles for Aussies. Virtual assistant, freelance writing, marketing or in-person gigs such as cleaning, yard work etc.

Airtasker

I experimented with this recently and was surprised. There are numerous gigs which are too low but I secured some good ones and ongoing work too. I have a full article on how to make money with Airtasker including all my tips.

Money Making Articles

Over the years, I’ve shared numerous articles on ways to make money and side hustles. How I made $33,277 on the side in 12 months is popular.
